Roger Riordan: Miscellaneous photos 1961

We were married on June 24th, 1961, in St John's, Toorak, and the reception was held at Sally's parents flat in Heyington. The next morning we set out for Mount Buffalo, where we spent a week at the Chalet. This was run by Victorian Railways, and the standard of the Chalet was decidedly ordinary -- our bedroom was about what you would have expected in a second-rate motel, and the dining room was presided over by a dragon who did not believe in letting the guests enjoy themselves. There were, I think, two other honeymoon couples there.

They had a standard Victorian Railways ticket franking machine at reception, and we were issued tickets for everything we did: booking the ping-pong table, walks, ski tuition and so on.

The weather was quite reasonable (for June!) and we tried skiing for one day, without noticeable success and without catching the bug, and on another day we drove over to Mount Hotham for the day, but we spent most of the time exploring the plateau.
